LICADD’s

31st Annual R. Brinkley Smithers Golf Invitational

Honoring

Ray Negron

Sports Executive, New York Yankees

The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) is proud to announce that Ray Negron, sports executive and New York Times Bestselling Author will be the Honoree at the 31st Annual R. Brinkley Smithers Golf Invitational.

Contrary to the norm, Negron’s success stemmed from his rebellious actions during his youth. George Steinbrenner, former owner of the New York Yankees served as Negron’s mentor and provided him with the opportunity to grow, as he was hired as the Yankee batboy. His career took off as he became an inspiration to all around him, just as Steinbrenner was to him.

Ray’s 30+ years experience in baseball influenced three generations of baseball players. His previous work experience includes serving as a team counselor to the Cleveland Indians and the Texas Rangers. Negron assisted players to handle off-field challenges before they escalated. Negron currently works as a consultant to the Yankees and he is also the Director of Community Relations for Spalding, America’s oldest baseball company. Negron supports baseball in underprivileged areas by organizing donations and volunteer efforts from some of baseball’s biggest stars.

Ray is the executive producer of the upcoming animation, Henry & Me staring Richard Gere, Chazz Palminteri, Danny Aiello and the NY Yankees. The film is set to be released in the Fall 2011.

With his love of children and passion for writing, Ray has written and published three children’s books. Ray’s first book, The Boy of Steel, was #2 on the NY Times Bestseller List and is currently on display at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. All of Negron’s publications have helped numerous organizations and causes including little leagues, the Boys & Girls Club, the NY Yankees Foundation for cancer research and education, juvenile diabetes, the Dewayne Murcer Foundation for cancer research and education, and charities to help the homeless.

Ray has received numerous Humanitarian awards including one from the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women. Ray has also been recognized for his work in the community by many organizations including Promesa and the North Shore Family & Child Guidance Center. Ray was inducted into the Ted Williams Hall of Fame Museum and the International Latino Sports Hall of Fame. Ray has received an award from the Department of Homeland Security for his achievements and accomplishments as an author and for being a positive role model in the community.

Negron’s selflessness and assistance to those in need truly embody LICADD’s core values, programs, and services. LICADD is proud to have him serve as the Honoree for our 31st Annual R. Brinkley Smithers Golf Invitational.
