As a community-based non-profit organization, LICADD relies heavily on volunteers in order to fulfill its mission and promise to Long Islanders touched by addiction. Volunteering is a great way to contribute to the well-being of your community, gain valuable experience and meet new people. We currently have an urgent need for volunteers in the following areas:
Substance Abuse Prevention Education
LICADD is committed to educating young people and adults about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. We participate in health fairs, community forums, school-based events and conduct prevention workshops in a variety of settings. Among our best-known programs is Too Good For Drugs, an evidence-based substance abuse prevention program for students K-6. Requests for LICADD speakers have increased dramatically in recent months and we could use your help! If you’re passionate about saving lives, dedicated to improving the overall health of our community and care deeply about what’s happening among our young people, we’d love to talk to you. We’ll give you the training, information, materials and support you need to make a difference. Hours and assignments are flexible and you’ll gain great experience as you work with LICADD’s top-notch professional team. We especially seek those in recovery and those affected by addiction who are willing to share their experience, strength and hope with others. Please call us at 516-747-2606 to get started.
Community Outreach – STREET Team
LICADD is looking for energetic and personable volunteers who can help us conduct outreach and literature distribution at health fairs, sporting events, concerts and at community gathering places across Long Island. Help us educate Long Islanders about the dangers of substance abuse, let them know that we are here to help and give them printed materials detailing key facts about drug and alcohol use. Hours are flexible and locations span Nassau and Suffolk. This is a great opportunity for teens and adults of all ages.
Hotline Help
Our phones are ringing off the hook and we could use your assistance answering calls from Long Islanders looking for drug and alcohol help for themselves and/or family members. You’ll support callers, provide them with information and referrals, and help schedule them for sessions with LICADD’s clinicians. We’ll give you the training you need and support you every step of the way. We have day, evening and weekend hours available in both our Mineola and Ronkonkoma offices.
Mentors
If you have an hour a week, please consider becoming a mentor to a young person in LICADD’s BUDDY program. We serve young people ages 4-18 whose mothers are incarcerated and we’re focused on enhancing the quality of life for these at-risk kids. Our mentors receive extensive training and commit to working with one or more boys or girls for at least a year. We’ll facilitate your introduction to your mentee and support the relationship every step of the way as you participate in group and individual activities and outings.

We have several projects ready to go and you’ll find working with us is not only hassle-free, but incredibly rewarding. We’ll gladly give you a credit line on the materials you do for us and a link on our website.
