LICADD To Honor Dr. Stephen L. Dewey at 22nd Annual Peter Sweisgood Breakfast on Nov. 13th
The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence’s 22nd Annual Peter Sweisgood Breakfast will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 10:00AM-1:00PM at the Melville Marriott and among those being honored is Dr. Stephen L. Dewey.
Dr. Dewey received his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the Neurology Department at Stony Brook University. He conducts research on the effects of addictive drugs on the human brain at the Center for Neurosciences at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at North Shore–LIJ. Dr. Dewey started an outreach program bringing his research findings to school districts across New York State, reaching tens of thousands of school-age children, parents, teachers, administrators, and counselors. “Dr. Dewey’s message is science-based, objective, and delivered with a sense of urgency, compassion and caring that commands attention,” said LICADD Executive Director, Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds. “We are thrilled to present Dr. Dewey with our 2011 Community Champion Award in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of prevention and substance abuse research,” he added.
“I’m very honored to be recognized for my volunteer outreach efforts to educate the community on the disease of addiction,” said Dr. Dewey. The Peter Sweisgood Breakfast provides LICADD with the opportunity to applaud its partners in addiction treatment and prevention, and proceeds from the event support LICADD’s family interventions and other clinical services for adults, children and families. Other honorees this year include Seafield’s Stewart Paul (posthumously) and News 12 Long Island.
Tickets to the breakfast are just $45 and a table for 10 can be purchased at a discounted rate of $400. LICADD is also pleased to offer a variety of sponsorship opportunities, all of which come with prominent recognition and great visibility at Long Island’s premier addiction event.
