The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) is pleased to announce that its Executive Director, Dr. Jeffrey L. Reynolds, has been appointed to the Suffolk County Welfare to Work Commission by Suffolk Legislator Kate Browning. The group is charged with evaluating and making recommendations related to federal, State and county policies and procedures that will help move Suffolk County residents from welfare to work.

“Dr. Reynolds will be a tremendous addition to the Welfare to Work Commission,” stated Legislator Browning. “His expertise with drug addiction will be a valuable asset while the commission continues pushing for sober home reform in Suffolk County. Dr. Reynolds’ work with LICADD also puts him in the everyday lives of residents who depend on public transportation and social services benefits. His direct knowledge of their needs will contribute to the important recommendations the commission makes to the legislature,” she said.

“People with addictions often rely on Medicaid and Public Assistance as they struggle to get back on their feet,” said Dr. Reynolds. “We need to make sure that those systems are functioning optimally and that we are using public dollars in the most efficient and productive way possible. I’m grateful to have this opportunity and congratulate Kate Browning for taking on the sober home issue with such vigor,” he added. “Absent state regulation of sober homes, we must ensure that good sober living facilities are properly supported and that unsafe, sub-standard houses run by absentee landlords looking to make a quick buck are identified, monitored, and when appropriate, closed-down.”

With offices in Williston Park, Ronkonkoma and Riverhead, LICADD provides a variety of services to individuals and families struggling with addiction. In addiction to short-term solution-focused individual counseling and treatment planning, LICADD also offers planned family interventions, family education workshops and support groups, relapse prevention support groups and psychosocial education. Dr. Reynolds also serves as Chair of the Suffolk Heroin and Opiate Advisory Panel, is on the executive committee of the Nassau County Heroin Task Force and serves as Vice Chair of the New York State AIDS Advisory Council.
