The Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) today announced that  Steven Ford, well-known film actor with roles in over 30 major motion pictures including Black Hawk Down and When Harry Met Sally and the son of former President Gerald R. and Mrs. Betty Ford will be the keynote speaker at the agency’s 24th Annual Angel Ball. “I am honored to be a part of this celebration as LICADD marks 55 years of helping families find the healing power of recovery from alcoholism and drug addition,” said Mr. Ford.  This spectacular gala will be held on May 4, 2011 at the legendary Oheka Castle. The Ball’s new jazz theme will be enhanced by the sensational sounds of the Joel Sikowitz Swing Orchestra. Executive Director Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds stated, “this year’s theme ‘Jazzed About Saving Lives’ reflects the renewed excitement at LICADD as we continue to launch new initiatives and expand our unique alcoholism and drug prevention, education and support programs for at-risk children and families on the Island.”

Angel Ball Co-Chair, Jeffery Capazzi said, “we are delighted to have Mr. Ford with us to help present the 2011 Founder’s Award to Dr. John P. Sheehy in recognition of Dr. Sheehy’s more than two decades of service to LICADD’s mission and the Long Island community”. Dr. Sheehy has worked relentlessly to raise the public awareness of the health risks of alcoholism and drug addiction particularly among our children and adolescents.  Dr. Sheehy is the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Glen Cove Hospital and is an attending physician at North Shore-LIJ University Hospital at Manhasset, Cohen Children’s Medical Center and Winthrop University.

For over twenty-four years, the Angel Ball has brought together parents, educators and leaders in government, law enforcement, and the treatment field in support of LICADD’s programs. LICADD’s Angel Ball is one of the nonprofit organization’s key fundraising events and organizers hope to raise more than $275,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales and onsite auctions/raffles. Tickets to this year’s Angel Ball are $500 and are available online or via phone at 516-747-2606.
