21st Annual Peter Sweisgood Breakfast A Success
The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) announced that a historic number of children, parents, government officials, educators and treatment professionals attended this year’s Peter Sweisgood Breakfast on Sunday, November 14th. This time-honored autumn tradition has a new young face as hundreds of young adults came in record numbers to support LICADD’s mission to provide effective prevention education programs for our children and access to effective treatment for those struggling to overcome addiction. LICADD’s Youth Advisory Board, in conjunction with the members of People United to Stop Heroin (PUSH), the newly formed advocacy group and team of master level clinical interns and volunteers brought a new energy to this event and helped to raise over $32,000 for LICADD’s life-saving prevention programs.
This year’s honorees included Treatment Champion Thomas MacGilvray, LCSW, CASAC, Retired Director of Community Mental Hygiene Services for Suffolk County, Media Champion Angela Susan Anton of Anton Publications and Community Champion Kellenberg Memorial High School Social Justice & Community Service Programs. All of this year’s honorees are stellar examples of the dedication, talents and life’s work of Father Peter Sweisgood, former LICADD Assistant Director, for whom the breakfast is named after.
LICADD Executive Director, Dr. Jeffrey L. Reynolds stated, “at this time when we hear so much of what has gone wrong with our youth, it was a proud moment for LICADD to have the opportunity to honor so many dedicated students, their teachers and parents for their dedication to promoting healthier communities and giving back. LICADD is about uniting, healing and serving communities and this breakfast demonstrated just how far we’ve come in the last year”
