Second "Step-N-Out" Sober Dance Set For Feb. 6th

January 13, 2010 – Following a successful New Year’s Eve sober dance party, the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) – in conjunction with Long Island’s prevention, treatment and recovery community – will hold its February Step-N-Out sober dance party on Saturday, February 6, 2010. The event is made possible by Jeff Sherman and the Bet U Can Dance Studio, and is being underwritten by Phoenix Houses of Long Island. The Kenneth Peters Center for Recovery, Seafield Centers, Pederson Krag, Bridge Back to Life, and the Long Island Center for Recovery are among the event’s organizers. This event will provide a safe place for people in recovery and their families to socialize without the pressures of consuming alcohol or drugs and will begin with a professional salsa dance lesson.

“Young adults new in recovery – particularly those in suburban areas like Long Island where community events are scant – need safe, sober options for socialization,” said LICADD’s executive director Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds. “We also encourage folks to bring their friends and families interested in supporting their recovery,” he added.

Step-N-Out is being generously hosted by Jeff Sherman, owner of the Bet U Can Dance Studio located at 3032 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport.  The dance will be from 8:00pm-12:00 midnight on Saturday, February 6, 2010 and a $5 donation is suggested at the door. Those interested in attending or volunteering can call LICADD at 516-747-2606.
