LICADD Co-Sponsoring Opiate Overdose Prevention Trainings

Posted on January 9, 2010 under Latest LICADD News

LICADD has teamed up with the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute and the NYC Harm Reduction Coalition to bring three FREE overdose prevention trainings to Long Island!

The dates/locations are as follows:

January 12th 1:00PM-4:00PM Seafield Training Center in Amityville

January 13th 9:00AM-12:00PM First Baptist Church of Riverhead

January 13th 2:00PM-5:00PM Shinnecock Presbyterian Church

Long Island has seen a dramatic increase in heroin and other opioid overdoses. In most cases, these fatalities are preventable through education, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and when possible, through the administration of Naloxone (Narcan). In our three-hour workshops, participants will learn the essentials of opioid overdose prevention, will receive certification as Trained Overdose Responders, and become qualified to train heroin or opioid users and colleagues at their own facilities on how to prevent an overdose. Participants will also learn how to implement a New York State Department of Health-approved program with support from the Harm Reduction Coalition. To register, please call LICADD at 516-747-2606.
