LICADD will celebrate a milestone event on Sunday, November 15, 2009 with the 20th Anniversary of the Peter Sweisgood Breakfast to be held from 10:00AM-1:00PM at the Melville Marriott. This time-honored autumn tradition brings the Long Island community together to honor those who have promoted access to substance abuse treatment and to celebrate the miracle of recovery. Treatment professionals, community leaders, government officials and families will join together in support of LICADD’s mission to provide effective prevention education programs for our children and access to effective treatment for those struggling to overcome addiction.

At the event, LICADD will present its 2009 Treatment Champion Award to NYS OASAS Commissioner Karen Carpenter-Palumbo in recognition of her dedication to health and behavioral health care, substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery services. Hispanic Counseling Center Executive Director Gladys Serrano will receive the Community Champion Award for providing top-quality treatment services to underserved populations. And the Media Champion Award will be presented to Jed Morey, publisher of the Long Island Press, in recognition of his community leadership and the paper’s hard-hitting, award-winning and ongoing coverage of Long Island’s teen heroin epidemic.

According to LICADD Executive Director Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds, “This year’s honorees have each made significant contributions to our efforts to promote awareness, treatment on demand and new approaches to substance abuse prevention.” Board Chair Curtis Webster added, “And it is wonderful, particularly at this time of the year, to have the opportunity to pause and recognize some of the heroes in our community who are making a positive difference in our neighbors’ lives.”

Tickets to the Peter Sweisgood Breakfast are just $45.00 and sponsorship opportunities range from $1,000 to $10,000. Proceeds from the event will support LICADD’s family interventions and other clinical services for adults, children and families, as well as the agency’s evidence-based prevention programs.
