LICADD Golf Outing Is Most Successful Ever, Raising $280,000!
LICADD’s R. Brinkley Smithers 29th Annual golf invitational was the most successful charity golf tournament in the agency’s 53 year history. Held at the famed Creek and Piping Rock Clubs in Locust Valley, this sold-out event exceeded all expectations raising over $280,000 for LICADD’s cutting-edge drug and alcohol prevention programs. Drawing together business, community and government leaders the tournament helped raise public awareness about the heroin crisis facing Long Island’s children. In his address, County Executive Thomas Suozzi joined emcee Scott Clark in praising LICADD’s 2009 Humanitarian Award recipient Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence W. Mulvey for his outstanding work on behalf of the community.
Assemblyman Joseph Saladino added his support of LICADD’s prevention efforts in regional schools and announced the award of a $2,000 grant for LICADD’s school based alcohol and drug prevention programs. “The success of this event gives us the ability to meet the growing challenges of addiction among Long Islanders,” said LICADD’s executive director, Dr. Jeffrey L. Reynolds. “We operate on a shoestring budget and the funds raised at this year’s golf outing will enable us to continue our life-saving services and prevention education programs, especially as heroin use continues to skyrocket among our region’s young people.”
LICADD’s board chair Curt Webster stated, “I am inspired by the enthusiastic support displayed by so many members of the community particularly during these challenging economic times. At LICADD, we see parents desperate to find help for their children, struggling against a cumbersome healthcare system and a desperate shortage of effective treatment options and frightened that if they do finally find help it will be too late to save their children. As the Board Chair for LICADD, I am heartened that through our collaborative efforts and events such as the golf outing we are able to provide parents with the tools and resources they need to help their children fight the perils of addiction.”
LICADD thanks each and every one of our golfers, sponsors, donors, volunteers and committee members for making this year’s golf outing such a huge success.
