The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) announced today that its 22nd Annual Angel Ball was an overwhelming success. Held at the Garden City Hotel on May 7th, with a extraordinary number of attendees, the Angel Ball grossed over $225,000 for LICADD’s alcoholism and substance use prevention, education and support programs for children and families. Angel Ball Chair Michael Schaffield stated, “We are seeing record demands for our services as a result of the economic challenges facing our families, and we are heartened by the Long Island community’s steady commitment to our mission. We are encouraged by the communities’ willingness to provide the necessary resources to ensure that LICADD can continue to meet the growing need for services. We are grateful to our event sponsors, Adele C. Smithers, President of The Christopher D. Smithers Foundation, The Brennan Family, North Sea Advisors, our volunteers and all attendees.”

At the event, LICADD honored Maureen and Mickey Brennan of Oyster Bay and Scott Clark from WABC-TV for their unwavering commitment to providing assistance to children and families in need.

LICADD’s Executive Director, Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds stated, “People like Maureen and Mickey Brennan and our good friend Scott Clark, through their dedicated support of LICADD, are helping thousands of Long Islanders access life-saving information, support and substance abuse treatment services. Each day, we help individuals and families experience the miraculous journey of recovery and none of that would be possible without our donors, supporters and sponsors.”

LICADD addresses the addictive climate of our times by providing expert evaluation and early intervention services to individuals, children and families impacted by substance abuse, by spearheading prevention education programs in a variety of settings, facilitating professional trainings, and mobilizing communities through task force development and public policy advocacy. LICADD’s professionally guided family and workplace interventions, employee and union assistance programs, and substance abuse prevention programs including its proprietary evidence-based Footprints for Life program, have distinguished the agency as a regional leader in the reduction of substance abuse, the elimination of stigma associated with addiction, and the promotion of recovery.

LICADD Board Chair Curt Webster said, “For more than twenty-two years, the Angel Ball has brought the Long Island community together to support LICADD’s programs which save thousands of lives annually and provide exceptional services to our children. I am pleased that the evening was so successful and that our programs will continue to meet Long Island’s growing needs.”
